In Memoriam – Big Dave Happell

The PoCo Slo-Pitch League mourns the loss of Big Dave Happell, a beloved figure in our community and a pillar of the League for many years. Known to everyone simply as “Big Dave”, he was more than a player he was a mentor, a friend, and a source of laughter and camaraderie for everyone in the League. Big Dave played proudly for two teams he loved dearly: the River Ratz and the Demons. His larger-than-life personality and love of the game made him unforgettable on the diamond. Off the field, Big Dave made an enormous impact. Last year alone, he umpired the second-most games in the League, helping ensure fair play and keeping the game running smoothly. He volunteered tirelessly, and was always there to support the League in any way he could. Big Dave’s legacy isn’t measured in stats or championships, but in the friendships he fostered, the laughter he brought to every game, and the countless memories he helped create. The PoCo Slo-Pitch League will honor his contributions by keeping the spirit of community, fun, and dedication he embodied alive in every season. We will miss him deeply, but we are forever grateful for the enormous impact he had on the PoCo Slo-Pitch League and our community.
